“Ride Along” was as expected; meaning that all of the “good” and “funny” content was shown in the previews.
Kevin Hart is funny, but he’s only as funny as his character can take him, and the man cannot act. There is little difference between watching Mr. Hart on the big screen acting and watching him on a stage doing standup.
Ice Cube is Ice Cube and no matter what role he is in he always brings Mr. NWA. I believe that Ice Cube (aka O’Shea Jackson) is a talented writer, a historically great musician, and an accomplished actor; unfortunately like a lot of famous actors he has only one character and that is himself.
The best part of the movie, with a lot of “I told you so” from kids across America, is that video games are not only good for you, but that they can save your life with enough practice. It was fantastic to see Kevin Hart’s character, who is a first person video gaming pro, be able to recognize different guns by the sounds they make, similar to the games he plays. Best yet…be able to find extra ammo lying on the ground during a gun battle just like in the games that our youth play today.
This movie looked like it could be ok, but it wasn’t. It was predictable, and all of the funny content was left for the previews. The only redeeming qualities were the video game life skills because nowhere else would they actually help you like they did in this movie. With that I give this movie one thumb up, and I recommend you wait to see it when it is released on DVD.
